With her plumb bow and salty lines, this is a sought-after cruising yacht that requires little in the way of introduction. In production from 1996 to 2019, the Nordic Tug 42 is a seaworthy, heavily-built, hard-chine, semi-displacement yacht that comfortably cruises at 9 knots, using approximately 22.5 litres per hour.
Since 2014, Ancient Murrelet has been cruised extensively throughout BC and WA and has been enjoyed and cared for by a highly knowledgable and committed cruising couple, with many years of ocean voyaging experience.
The prop and rudder are protected by a deep keel. Stored on the hard each winter, and regularly serviced by Philbrooks Boat Yard, Ancient Murrelet is in stunning condition inside and out.
Details follow, but some particularly notable features include:
And since these owners are retiring from boating, she will come fully found with tools, safety gear, spares, general cruising equipment, galleyware, linens, kayaks, and SUPs.
Board from a dock or tender to the swim platform, and through the transom door to the cockpit. There are steps up port and starboard to the side decks, a ladder to the boat deck and flybridge, and a door to the salon.
The door to the salon is broad, and when latched open, permits great flow from the cockpit through to the salon, and with the huge wrap-around windows, makes the space feel open and bright.
On the same level, just forward and to port, is the galley, while to starboard, steps down to the accommodations area, or steps up to the pilothouse.
The pilothouse has port and starboard doors to the side decks and foredeck.
Down steps from the salon is the accommodations area with a nav station to starboard, a guest cabin to port, a guest head opposite, and the owners’ cabin forward, with its own private ensuite.
The comfy salon features a large dining area with an L-shaped sofa for seating family and guests, two folding teak chairs.
The galley is adjacent and integral to the salon bringing cooks and guests together. It is a spacious, U-shaped design that has abundant storage, and working space. It features a teak and holly sole, teak cabinetry, and large Corian work surfacesDouble polished stainless sinks with instant hot water
The pilothouse arrangement contributes to the Nordic Tug 42 being so well suited to cruising our waters: it is the operational centre of the yacht, somewhat separate from other areas, allowing the operator to safely focus on tasks at hand. It offers tremendous 360 degree visibility and the two side deck doors, each with screens, allow easy access outside and to the bow.
Of course, the operator hardly needs to be alone, and there is room for others to join in the pilothouse with a comfy settee for guest seating and a lovely teak table to enjoy early morning coffee as you get underway.
Moving forward from the salon and through the accommodations companionway, the master stateroom is forward, tried in teak, and includes a walk-around queen berth, ample storage, and an ensuite head with a custom spa bathtub and shower.
The guest stateroom is just aft to port and provides a double bed and generous locker space for all personal items. The washer / dryer is situated here. And the guest / day head with shower is opposite to starboard.
Also to starboard is a nav desk / office space. In this area you can monitor the generator, inverter and tank levels as well as manage your AC/DC breaker panel.
The exterior decks are safe to walk around, and the cockpit is partially covered by the extended boat deck above for a little sun or light rain protection.
Nordic Tugs introduced the flybridge option for the 42 in 2005. It is a comfortable space, fully enclosed, and heated.

AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit break panels with appropriate Volt and Amp gauges. 110VAC provided by 30 Amp shore connection, by 9 kW generator, and, based on available house bank battery power, lighter loads through the 2 kW inverter.
The owner reports that at 9 knots, the single 450 hp Cummins diesel efficiently burns about 22.5 litres per hour. She will also cruise comfortably at 10 to 12 knots, and has a top speed of 14 knots.
