The current owners, a highly experienced voyaging couple, acquired Capers last year, and spent a small fortune on deferred maintenance items and upgrades, preparing for more world voyaging.
This investment will be for the long term benefit of her next owner, as an unexpected change in plans reluctantly brings Capers to market. She is in wonderful condition, with a final detailing and hull polish and wax currently underway.
A popular model, the Nordhavn 46 is a distinctive pilothouse trawler with a ballasted, full-displacement hull, and the sturdy profile of a rugged North Sea workboat, all surrounding a supremely comfortable cruising yacht intended for voyaging.
A total of 82 Nordhavn 46 ocean trawlers were built, and only nine of those with a flybridge.
According to the company, no other production yacht has had as many ocean crossings as the Nordhavn 46. A Lugger 143 hp diesel will cruise at 8 knots with a range of 1,800 – 2,000 miles.
The attention to detail, quality joinery, and comfortable spaces found throughout this top-tier yacht is exceptional. And Capers’ next owner will benefit from the current owner’s diligent service and maintenance.
Two interiors were offered in the Nordhavn 46. Both with two cabins and two heads. The earlier layout, Plan A, puts the owner’s stateroom amidships. The forward stateroom is reached separately from the pilothouse.
Plan B, found in most later models, has the owner’s stateroom forward and both staterooms are accessed from the salon, with no need to transit the pilothouse.
This is the Plan B layout, with two cabins and two heads,
The asymmetrical salon is offset to port leaving a broad safe starboard-side walkway from the cockpit to the bow, through the Portuguese bridge.
Level with the salon, a U-shaped galley with is forward to port.
The pilothouse, four steps up from the salon, includes a watch berth and port and starboard side doors to the outside decks.
Finishing throughout is in teak with hand rubbed satin finish. The sole is varnished teak and holly. Headliners in the salon, galley and pilothouse are all brand new, and all overhead lighting was recently upgraded to LEDs.
The accommodations companionway is down a few steps forward of the salon, with no need to transit the pilothouse for access. This is a generous two-cabin and two head layout with comfortable living spaces, and abundant storage.

AC and DC power services the vessel through circuit breaker panels with appropriate voltage and ampere gauges. 110VAC provided by 50 Amp shore connection (bow or stern), by the generator, and based on available house bank battery power, through the inverter.
At sea, the batteries are charged by engine or generator driven alternators and while at a dock, by the chargers via shorepower.
The Nordhavn 46 engine room is a model of flawless planning and engineering. The main engine is located low and on centerline, adding to the nature of the stability of the ship and allowing plenty of room to work around it. It is insulated with heavy-duty foiled and leaded foam.
Two fuel tanks totalling 1,000 gallons are made from molded fibreglass.
Neat, organized, very well lit, and with room to work on all sides, the engine room provides a safe, welcoming environment.
