I so harkened to the yacht business in the early 80s, when I saw nothing but opportunity in a fledgling industry. It was the opportunity to work closely with an amazing cross section of people at the most positive times in their lives – when buying and selling the object of their passion – that drew me to the business. Many of the relationships that I have established in that process have grown into life long friendships. I was also drawn to the opportunity to help grow an industry, by forming the BC Yacht Brokers Association, which continues today and is a model copied elsewhere in North America. At the same time, the yacht business allowed me to work with Roger Glassford, my partner of many years, and together to grow Grand Yachts into a polished and professional sales organization representing two world class product lines: Grand Banks and Fleming.
Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to welcome Robb Butler, my friend and colleague, as in equal partner in this endeavor including Fleming Yachts Canada. Perhaps most importantly, the yacht business afforded me the opportunity to grow as a person, to develop my understanding of yachts, people and cruising, and to make a difference. As owner of Grand Banks 42 Europa, “Bridges,” my wife Beverly and Emma the puppy, enjoy as much time as possible discovering our wondrous coast.

Robb Butler is an equal Partner in Grand Yachts Inc. and Fleming Yachts Canada, has developed an enormous passion for the yachting industry, a passion which drives his success.
Robb was born in Alberta, and relocated to Cape Town when he was a teenager and where he discovered and intense interest in sailing. Sailing became a mainstay in Robb’s life; he raced dinghies and competed in numerous off-shore keel boat events around the Cape of Good Hope. He owned seven keelboats and held the position of Skipper on three Trans-Atlantic Races. His last race in 2009 was from Cape Town to Brazil on his own yacht, a 43’ Robertson & Caine built in Monte Video, which finally brought Robb and his wife Janey, to Vancouver Island. They have lived in Sidney ever since, where they keep “Lily B,” their pristine 32’ Grand Banks.
As owner and past CEO (for more than 30 years) of a large Clothing Design and Manufacturing Company, Robb’s business experience together with over 40,000 ocean miles gives him the necessary skills and expertise to guide clients carefully through the delicate stages of buying or selling, whether it be the build of a new yacht or the purchase or sale of a quality pre-owned vessel.
A client once told me that timing and luck is everything in life. After more than 33 years in the boat business, I can honestly say that he was correct.
From the early days in False Creek and founding Grand Yachts, to leaving the Creek to make way for Expo ’86 and moving into the original Coal Harbour Marina, to partnering with Brian Kell to develop the potential of Grand Yachts, to being involved in the development of the BC Yacht Brokers Association, to seizing the opportunity to participate in the development of the new Coal Harbour Marina and building offices there, to expanding our dealership to include the legendary Fleming Yachts, to building rewarding relationships with clients that have become life long friends, to building a team of like minded people to grow the company, and at the end of the day to putting positive excitement and fun into the process of buying and selling yachts, timing and luck continue to serve me well in the boat business. I look forward to many more years of helping to make boating a pleasure for seasoned and novice boaters alike.

JP’s introduction to sailing came out of a dare to sail a Sunfish on Lake Ontario in the middle of a keelboat race… After a few frightening moments, he was hooked. This passion grew to becoming involved in the sailing business in the late 70’s in Ottawa, when he became the first Beneteau dealer in Canada in 1983.
Ten years later, he founded Westerly Yacht Sales representing Beneteau in Western Canada. He managed the company to record sales achievements until 2012, when he sold the company.
During this period, he became involved as member of the board and president of the BCYBA for 7 years.
Recently, he was asked to join the team at Grand Yachts as an advisor/broker for Beneteau; he welcomed the opportunity to work with the professionals at Grand Yachts and to renew acquaintance with the Beneteau family.

Brian Morris started boating at a very early age with his parents, spending most weekends and summer vacations between Howe Sound and Desolation Sound on wooden cruisers. As an adult, he and his family came back to boating in 1993. They bought their first Grand Banks 36 from Grand Yachts in 1996 and upgraded to a Grand Banks 42 in 2005. Since then they have spent summers cruising from the West Coast of Vancouver Island to Alaska and Haida Gwaii.
Brain joined Grand Yachts shortly after retiring from a corporate career in service delivery and sales and marketing.
